A Clean Stone

Frankie shouts out to the milky night sky
From his cabin’s room,
“Either I’ve been thinking too much,
Or else I’ve not been enough.”
Frank says, “mother, pass the booze.”
Then he walks out the door into the darkness.
On a clean stone he rests his head
And he slept like the man he is.
Mother goes and finds him outside.
She covers him with her jacket then goes back inside.

I ain’t going, even if you came too.
Leaves flutter and your eyes are a planet-blue.
Jeanie, I know when I want to go home.
Walk down Absalom Street with a guitar in my hand.
Two patch cables frayed and stuck beneath microphone stand.
Jeanie, I know when I want to go home.
