Mr. Albert Knight flies higher than a kite, He drinks his black tea at nine. He potters in the garden, trimming the hedges. Mrs. Knight is gone now. Mr. Albert Knight what a sight, Not one to be beholden. He bumbles in the shed forgets his head in the transom window. Mr. Albert Knight he doesn’t know what’s right, He’s got a secret and it isn’t safe with me, I’ll tell you another time and then you’ll see. Mr. Albert Knight on a fanciful flight Flows from forgetting forests. He lives his life like an unlatched gate at night Blown open by the thunders. Mr. A. Knight stops for his pint Every evening at his local. Then Al saunters home all alone to sleep on his sitting room sofa. His trellis is broken and the vines are sodden now. Mr. Albert Knight try as you might, Walk toward the light.

Daylight is calling and I hear my own name. Something is different, I’m not the same. Am I somebody else? Is it a brand new day? I feel that I’ve been here before sometime, See somebody in the mirror but it’s not right. I know that you’ve been dreaming, but just look at me in the light. It’s a brand new day. Shadows fade away, Got to now do what I want to do, even though there’s nothing left that’s new. Sunshiny day, clouds melt away. Now there’s only one thing left to say: would you like to come and play? I wouldn’t have known before but I’m the only one, I am the face of daylight and of the moon, I want to forget you but don’t want to do that too soon.

Joanie & Eno 02:12
Little kitties sleep on a cloud of blankets, Dreaming of some fluff that’s fleeing From their tiny paws. Joanie is the orange one with the yellow eyes, Eno’s are green and her fur is grey. Listen to them roar. Why are you so cute? How’d you get so soft? What makes you purr so loud? And why’s your nose so pink? What do you dream about? And why am I so lucky to have Joanie and Eno? Joanie lays by the fireplace, she’s sleeping, While Eno sits on the stool, staring back at me. They have white tips on the ends of their tails. They like to destroy plants and eat up all the treats.

She’s the electric light that shines behind your eyes – Luminous and glowing chemicals inside your mind. Go watch the universe, she makes planets align. She exists on a point of light moving faster than time. She makes gardens grow; she even makes the stars shine, And she’s the electric light. The candles gutters on the sill, the fire is flickering downward, And she’s the light. She’s the electric light that shines behind the sun. She is all creation wrapped inside of one. Mother of all that’s good – fathering to none.

I am the hawk that soars, still I scuttle across the ocean floor, I am an echo in the night. I am a burdened beast, with a flicker of a hope at least, Still I wonder what will become of me. So take the sunset down, watercolor sky reflects on the ground As I fade into my past-tense dream. You were lovely, I was scared, so I question everything we shared… I’m a raindrop dangling from a leaf. I am a rooted fruit full of seeds that shot Through dirt into your spring. I am a smothering vine, latching onto everything I find That distracts me from me. Hey there, you are floating through the air, Drifting around, wayfaring Stranger of the breeze, rustling through the trees, Keeper of the bees. Song of the morning is yours’ to sing, Within you is everything.

Eileen 02:00
Eileen you walk up to me on an ambrosia breeze. Your hair is full of summer, apples and cherries. Eileen, you’re free. You are the wandering star of sunshine on a gloomy day, Your face paint pictures of a present tense beauteously. You just be yourself, don’t ever be no one else.

You lead a good life, very normal, simple pleasure abound. Make some dinner, watch the TV, go to bed alone. Never going back, even if you could, To the way it was, the way you thought it’d be, So dream big, baby, and you will see. Hang on to you dreams, girl you know That they’re going to take you further than me And not just when you’re asleep, You’re going to want to hang onto your dreams. The kettle’s boiled, the tea is ready, The couch awaits your body. Never going back, even if you could, To the way it was, the way you thought it’d be, So dream big, baby, and you will see.

The sunlight fades over the only town that Edna’s ever known in her life. She watches from the window of a train, rickety and dodgy, bumpy and she lets out a sigh. Just to her left is the field now covered in houses, where Charlie broke his collar when they were kids. Now Charlie’s gone and she’s alone riding on the last train to Oldenshire. All her life she’s dreamed of leaving. Now she’s gone. She sold all her china to the junk store, the one’s they got when they were married. She slept in their bed one last time. She touched the pillow where Charlie used to lay his head. Now Edna’s leaving all that she’s known to live with her niece halfway across the country. She dreams she stuck in the murk on the bottom of the ocean where even the fish cannot see. Now Charlie’s gone and she’s alone riding on the last train to Oldenshire. All her life she’s dreamed of leaving. Now she’s gone.

You’re the nighttime, you’re the moon, you’re the ancient wisdom. You’re from the Other World, yet you have a knack for everything that’s good. You don’t know what I did before but don’t let that stand in your way, The night knows what the daytime don’t they say. Ok, so you’re the person I saw on the street corner. You look different to me now, you look like someone else. Toys in the attic, radio static. Dust on the shelves where the books lay in lines. I’m the idiot, you’re the truth. Dog-eared pages, books fall closed.
10.
Ground’s warming, snow is melting, sun’s shinning in the yard. Seeds are sprouting, green is showing, the smell of fresh dirt in the garden. Love grows in the air (floating about) Into my body and out of my head (and out from my hands) Is it time to start again? New season but nothing’s finished, things begin anew all over. You and I we’ve grown from seedlings, and in bellies we can make new babies. Love grows in the air (floating about) Into my body and out of my head (and out from my hands) Plants don’t change what they wear (even in sun) Is it time to start again?
11.
Sunshine girl in a diamond world, with prisms refract light Into the darkness and the ever-shifting sands of time and the crocus of the field. Murmurs of the ancient wisdom, Mother Universe she calls my name, And I must listen and go forth into another day. Day glow disappearing dreams, I am not whole, I am missing some pieces and someday I’ll find them all. There is no soul inside creation, but creation is the soul of everything. Endless parade of beauty saunters past my eyes, filtered through the burning sunset, Sinking past my horizon. I am ancient but brand new, I am a piece of sky and so are you. The trickle of wisdom flows from mountains floating high above the sky, Free for all who might receive and accept that none is flawed.

about

The Sunshiny Daze is the new recording project from Christopher Sleightholm (Snake River). Clouds Melt Away is the first album under this alter ego. With no shows to play Christopher used the time to make a straight up, true-to-life 60s psych pop record. Having forever been inspired by the relatively forgotten works of sunshine/60s psych pop this project became the perfect vehicle to write songs that are tip of the hat, and a kiss on the cheek of the blissed-out music of the flower children that fried their minds in the 1967-1968 California sun. The spirit of this era in music has always loomed large in Christopher’s work, and this record provided the chance to pay tribute to the kaleidoscopic evergreen music of that time.

Between February and April 2021 Christopher recorded seventeen songs at his home studio in Regina, Saskatchewan called Song Has No End Studio. He whittled them down to the eleven songs that make up Clouds Melt Away. The songs have various reference points from the obvious like The Zombies, to the lesser-known work of producer Curt Boettcher’s albums with The Millennium and Sagittarius as well Eternity’s Children.

“Joanie and Eno” is the first single/video from the album, and is about Christopher’s cats. Everyone loves their pets, but those who write songs about their pets love them the most. The song is a jangly The Byrds-like thing that wonders what cats dream about, and ponders such deep questions as what makes kitties so soft, and why are their noses so pink.
